Cryolipolysis Is an Effective & Cutting-Edge Fat Reduction Treatment

A Quick Overview of Fat Freezing

Cryolipolysis, which translates into cold (cryo) fat (lipo) destruction (lysis), is a scientific process that involves freezing fat to reduce fatty bulges. As an increasingly commonplace non-surgical treatment, cryolipolsysis is a fantastic supplement that can eliminate fat pockets quickly and efficiently. It is sought by many because it targets zones of fat normally unchanged by dieting and exercise efforts.

Some of the primary fat treatment zones targeted by cryolipolsysis include:

  • Belly fat
  • Thigh fat
  • Neck Fat
  • Arm Fat
  • Love handles
  • Double chins
  • And much more

Today, we’ll outline the science behind cryolipolsysis and explain why it is an effective treatment for fat reduction.

The Origins of Cryolipolsysis/Fat Freezing

Harvard scientists Dieter Manstein, MD, and R. Rox Anderson, MD, perfected the scientific process of freezing fat for fat reduction. Odd as it sounds, the origins of this innovative weight loss treatment began with a simple observation. After observing diminished cheek fat among children who sucked on popsicles, they became interested in “cold-induced fat necrosis” and began experimenting with treatments.

Soon thereafter, the Harvard scientists began to retrieve and study skin samples from their pediatric patients in the popsicle study and noticed inflammation in the fat, but not in the overlying skin. Discovering fat to be more sensitive to cold injuries than other tissues, they learned that they could freeze fat without harming the surrounding muscles, tissues, and skin cells, which freeze at a much lower temperature due to their higher water ratios.

The rest was history, as cryolipolysis became a novel treatment in noninvasive body sculpting — offering individuals a way to eliminate stubborn fat deposits without surgery. The process of decay after fat is frozen is intricate and somewhat mysterious. What is known is that frozen fat cells deteriorate and die a few days after cold treatments. Over the ensuing months, the immune system’s macrophages then clean up, digest, and discard the dead fat cells.

The Scientific Intricacies of Body Fat

There are two primary types of body fat: subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. When we speak of the fat cryolipolysis targets, we are referring strictly to subcutaneous fat. Subcutaneous fat is the type of fat that surrounds the waistband; meanwhile, visceral fat surrounds organs. Visceral fat can cause health issues, such as diabetes and heart disease.

Because it is increasingly difficult to eliminate subcutaneous fat with age, cryolipolysis can be a game-changer for many. The first cryolipolysis technology was approved in 2010. Known as CoolSculpting, it froze and removed the area of fat commonly referred to as love handles. Fat-freezing treatments targeting the neck, thighs, belly, buttocks, and chin were certified and approved soon thereafter.

The CoolSculpting device isolates fat deposits in the treatment zone and targets them with ice-cold temperatures. These temperatures freeze fat cells, crystallizing and rupturing the cell membrane to catalyze cell death. Since the fat cells cannot store fat once the cell membrane disintegrates, the tissue is subsequently discarded through the lymphatic system. This leads to long-lasting results due to the fact that eliminated fat cells cannot regenerate or regrow.

A Safe & East Fat Removal Treatment

There have been nearly 10 million CoolSculpting treatments performed across the world. Unlike liposuction, cryolipolysis is an exceptionally safe treatment – free of anesthesia and the potential risks of bleeding or infection. Painless and quick, CoolSculpting’s noninvasive treatments usually last no longer than 35 minutes per session (although multiple sessions may be needed to remove fat from a specific zone).

There are a few minor side effects of cryolipolysis treatments, which include:

  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Redness and bruising
  • Swelling

Most side effects are temporary and disappear soon after treatment. Oddly enough, fat growth is the most significant side effect of cryolipolysis. This inverse side effect is mysterious and extremely rare, occurring less than 1% of the time.

Why We Offer Cryolipolysis

The Covery Wellness Spa offers franchisees exceptional flexibility in choosing the services they want to provide. Our franchisees are given the freedom to choose what cosmetic and wellness treatments best suit their clientele and business model. Cryolipolysis is one of our most popular services for many reasons. As a fast, affordable, and noninvasive solution for fat reduction, the abundant upsides and minimal downsides are simply too tempting to pass.

Before beginning any treatment, we recommend every patient ask a medical professional if they are a qualified candidate for fat freezing. The primary demographic for CoolSculpting is active, healthy adults who enjoy a well-rounded lifestyle, exercise regularly, and eat healthily. It should not be relied upon as an all-encompassing weight-loss treatment or as a substitute weight-loss plan for obese patients.

We highly recommend adding this service option to your health and wellness menu/subscription plan. Reach out to our team anytime if you’d like to learn more about cryolipolysis or Coolscupting. We’re eager and ready to answer all your questions and concerns!
